DATELINE: SINGLE WOMEN CAN NOW ADOPT!
China announces that Single Women may now apply to adopt Special Focus children (see below.)
The China Center of Adoption Affairs (CCAA) has announced that they have reopened the China Special Needs adoption program to Single Women. This is great news and we anticipate that many more precious Chinese children will find permanent loving homes as a result.
CCAA has published a list of qualifications/restrictions for single women who wish to adopt. Many of these are the same as they are for married couples, but for simplification we have summarized all of them below:
1. This program is limited to single women. CCAA will not allow single men or homosexual applicants to adopt.
2. Single Women may only adopt a child from the Special Focus list. For an explanation of "Special Focus" click HERE.
3. Only one child may be adopted at a time and the adopter must wait one year before applying to adopt another child.
4. AGE: The adopter must be at least 30 years old and at most 49. Exceptions can be made for older applicants, but the adopting mother may be no more than 45 years older than the child. (So a 52 year old woman could adopt a 7 year old girl.)
5. Singles must meet the basic adoption requirements for married couples including: good health, no criminal record, $10,000 annual income per family member, medical insurance for the child, etc. For a thorough explanation of qualifications for married couples, click HERE.
6. Singles must have a net worth of at least $100,000. If you are not certain what is included in this or for help calculating it, please ask us for help.
7. A single applicant must have experience caring for children, or work in a related field (doctor, nurse, school teacher), Experience with special needs children is preferred, but not required.
8. There can be no more than 2 children already in the home (under 18) and the youngest child in the home must be at least 6 years old.
9. The applicant must have designated guardians with a letter of consent.
10. There are other qualifications regarding attitude toward adoption, attitude toward marriage, evidence of good role models for the child, etc.
